Report of Screening of the film White Rainbow on 10th July, 2004
At Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi
A glittering function was organized by the Guild of Service at the Banquet Hall, Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi on 10th July, 2004 at 7.30 p.m. The dignitaries present were : Mrs. Gursharan Manmohan Singh w/o. the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri I.K. Gujral, former Prime Minister of India and Smt. Sheela Gujral, Shri Jaipal Reddy the Hon'ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting & Culture, His Excellency David Mulford, Ambassador of USA and Mrs. David Mulford, Mexican Ambassador His Excellency Julio Faesler and Mrs. Julio Faesler, Ambassador or Australia Her Excellency Penny Wensley and her husband Dr. S. Mccofker, Ambassador of Chile Her Excellency Norma Acevedo De Heine, His Excellency Abdullahi, Ambassador of Nigeria. Ms. Nirmala Deshpande Rajya Sabha Member, Dr. Syeda Hameed, Member Planning Commission, Justice Leila Seth, Justice Sujata Manohar, Ms. Kate Dickson, Ms. Kiran Walia, Laura Livingston, Dr. George Mathew, Shri Virendra Dayal, actress Ms. Nandita Das, Ms. Kunika Lal and cast of the film White Rainbow.
The Director of the Film Mr. Dharan Mandrayar and the cast of the film Ms. Sonali Kulkarni, Mr. Virender Saxena, Amardeep Jha, Shamim Shaikh, Amruta Subhash were also present.
At the very beginning of the film Dr. Giri facilitated two very dear sisters and members of the Guild of Service Ms. Nirmala Deshpande on becoming a Member of the Rajya Sabha and Dr. Syeda Hameed on becoming a Member of the Planning Commission.
Shri Jaipal Reddy, Hon'ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting & Culture, Shri I.K. Gujral, former Prime Minister of India and Ms. Manmohan Singh, w/o. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India paid glowing tributes to Ms. Nirmala Deshpande and Dr. Syeda Hameed.
War widows of Kargil and 1971 operation sat on the left side of the dais and widows of Vrindavan sat on the right side of the dais. The function started with the sound of the conch (shank) and sounds of welcome by the widows. A diya (candle) was passed on to each widow (mother) by a dignitary. The Director of the film Mr. Dharan Mandrayar also spoke on the occasion. We have had a good coverage in the media. Indian Doordarshan (T.V) covered the 20 minutes programme.
The screening of the film started at 8.15 p.m. sharp and ended by 9.45 p.m. Dr. Giri felicitated with gifts the cast and crew of the film. Our vice chairperson Ms. Shyama Agarwal gave the vote of thanks. Ms. Agarwal arranged the dinner for all dignitaries and cast at her residence.
