The astronauts of the Columbia Space Challenger, representing different countries, different races, and different genders came together to advance a mission with promise for all of humankind. Their heroism is not the heroism of war or rescue but that of daring to step beyond the normal bonds of life on this planet. It is a peaceful heroism. Their unswerving dedication to their dreams and willingness to take the risks needed to fulfill their visions will always be remembered.

All of our hearts open with concern and care for the families of the Columbia Space Challenger as they face the hard days of mourning and healing to come.
