Dr. Sima Samar Wins Perdita Huston Award
Ceremony To Be Held June 11, 2003, in Washington, DC
Dr. Sima Samar is the Chair of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights
Commission, which is the first human rights commission in Afghanistan's
history. As Minister of Women's Affairs, Dr. Samar was one of only two
women cabinet ministers in the transition government. As the recipient
of
the inaugural PHHRA, Sima Samar will be recognized for her dedication to
the education and health of women in Afghanistan. Her unfailing efforts
for her countrywomen through decades of resistance and life threatening
circumstances deserve our deep respect and recognition.
The Perdita Huston Human Rights Award is sponsored by United Nations
